Who is a Wildflower?

Wildflowers are
Unique Learners!
Our learners may have distinctive
interests and strengths
They may learn best with creative
and alternative learning plans
They may thrive in small group
settings with like-minded peers
These learners often use their strengths to compensate for their learning difficulties or environmental overstimulation. If evaluated, these students may be identified as Twice Exceptional, or "2e" - intellectually driven children that also have learning disabilities
such as dyslexia, ADHD, or autism spectrum disorder.
These learners are often overlooked and under-identified to receive educational services. They may struggle in a traditional academic setting from lack of supports or understanding from staff and peers. Their unmet educational and social emotional needs lead to dysregulation at school and at home. This may look like:
-
Separation or social anxiety - not wanting to go to school
-
Exhaustion from masking their feelings to get through a day at school
-
Meltdowns at home after school
-
Oppositional behavior
-
Low frustration tolerance
-
Low self esteem or feeling different than peers
-
Lack of motivation for school due to boredom or lack of interest
Wildflower Academy's
students benefit from:
-
Small class sizes and frequent teacher check ins
-
Extra time, space, and flexibility in learning approach
-
Executive functioning skill building for organization, time management, planning, and focus folded into daily schedules and routines
-
Social Emotional support across academics, communications, activities, and peer interactions
-
Quiet and comfortable areas to learn and breaks when they need it
-
Strength-based learning and the ability to collaborate with teachers on their own Unique Learning Projects (ULP's)

-
Positive Encouragement Program - rewarding positive outcomes and empowering students confidence
