As we embark on this endeavor, we have set class size maximum at 10 students per teacher and classrooms will be mixed grades. Groups will be organized by individual strengths and academic goals. The smaller class ratio allows teachers to individualize academic lesson plans that promote executive functioning and social emotional skill building. We look to be a flexible setting that prioritizes comfort at school for each child. We listen and work with their preferences and needs. Some kids feel better with shoes off - that's ok! They don't work best sitting at a table? That's fine.
For our first year, we look to partner with an occupational therapist to provide optional OT support - 1:1 sessions as well as collaborate on techniques that teachers fold into the learning plan for each student. We will also incorporate fun, social activities throughout the week that aim to support fine motor and handwriting skills, balance/coordination, gross motor, motor planning, and communication skills. Sensory strategies are available and we will lean into nature for grounding, exploration, and creative play to enhance learning.
Our long term goal is to incorporate OT, PT, and Speech Therapy in the school curriculum. Both pushing into class time to support fine motor or communication skills individually, as well as hold weekly group programs that promote social skills that are engaging. Our ultimate aim is to add a full time counselor to lead social emotional learning groups, hold weekly individual sessions, and round out our unique school curriculum scaffold.
We are hoping to connect with like minded families to
establish this unique setting and build together!
